FRANCIS WEST

for Francis - Hong Kong

Francis West has all the hallmarks of the original Francis– bold flavours, casual, intimate, fun and accessible. The menu, however, puts a contemporary spin on dishes from the Maghreb regions.

The word Maghreb is an Arabic term literally meaning “place of setting” (of the sun), and hence ‘west’ which is a coincidence given Elgin street is west of the original St. Francis street location.

Middle Eastern restaurants are often imagined to have design aesthetics that tend to be dark, heavily patterned and somewhat cliché.

The minimal design ideal of Francis outlets sets out to challenge those conventions.

FRANCIS West is inspired by the airy Moroccan courtyards and intimate tapas bars of Southern Spain.

Large windows at the front provide a light and airy space. Textured plaster, concrete, vibrant colour combinations with dado lines reminiscent of garages in Spain, an inviting open kitchen and green plants strengthen the natural theme and connection between the inside and outside.
